No Surgery Today

First, thank you all for your love and support. Everyone has been so helpful during our little ordeal; we all just look forward to getting back to a somewhat normal routine as soon as we can.

In the last email I said that Alasdair’s surgery was scheduled for today, but there has been a change of plans. Apparently one of the attending surgeons had some sort of family emergency of his own and had to duck out today. Alasdair is tentatively rescheduled for surgery, but not until Thursday. He still has an MRI scheduled here in a few hours : Hirschsprung’s is a neural disorder (although not part of the central nervous system) they just want to peek at his brain and such as a precaution. They will intubate him for the procedure, but they expect to be able to remove his breathing tube and take him back off of anesthesia completely immediately following. In fact, they believe that he’s doing well enough that we can pull him out of the NICU tonight and find a regular room for him. It will be nice to stay in the same room as him. I’m certainly looking forward to that, currently our parent’s quarters are not even on the same floor.

Additionally, having his own
room should make visiting a little easier on everyone for the next few days. Following surgery they do plan on returning him to the NICU at least for a few days into his recovery (and back to the little closets they have us in). Following that it sounds like he’ll be here for 1-2 weeks following while he regains his ablity to eat and digest. Children’s won’t release him until he can show that he’s gaining weight from ingested food.

As of today, Jess and I have switched places. She’s back at home with the girls and I’ll be staying here with A.H. at least until his surgery on Thursday. Also, I’ll try to set up a blog for continued updates like this a little later tonite.

Keep us all in your prayers,

I've been thinking about your family all day today. I hope they are able to operate and AH heals quickly and can come home soon. ****HUGS****
